Something I Know
Atleigh Homma and Kesang Nanglu
Something I Know presents new paintings and a co-created quilt by Atleigh Homma and Kesang Nanglu, conceived while working side by side in their shared studio. The combined body of work reveals the artists' conceptual exchange through a common visual lexicon, including floral and nature motifs, portraits in profile, sharply cropped domestic interiors, and patterned fabric and textiles.
The diaristic paintings capture fragments of everyday life, ascribing symbolic meaning to ordinary objects and scenes to create compositions that speak to personally resonant narratives of cultural identity, wellbeing, and self-care.
Sewn collaboratively, Flower Quilt embodies the artists' mutual love of decorative arts and serves as an homage to the communities of skilled women these practices foster.
Through craft, they find connection to similar figures within their own families, transcending barriers of language, time, and place.
The exhibition's title is a statement imbued with both confidence and uncertainty, tentatively signaling a return to the pursuit of creative fulfillment, a rediscovery of obscured familial knowledge, and a recentering of all that is fundamental to one's own identity and sense of self.
